How to choose a small undermount dishwasher and what to look for when buying

0The main advantages of small built-in dishwashers are their compactness and economy.

Such a household appliance will fit perfectly in any modern kitchen and greatly facilitate the process of cleaning.

However, before you decide to buy a small dishwasher, you should study all the advantages and disadvantages of models of this size.

Features of Mini Dishwashers

Mini dishwasher, as a rule, holds 6-8 sets of dishes. A household appliance of this size will be suitable for a family of 1-2 people. The device will not take up much space, but will be an indispensable assistant in the kitchen.

Small dishwashers are often built under the sink. The dimensions of such devices usually vary depending on the different models.

The standard parameters are as follows:

  • width - 45-55 cm;
  • height - 45-60 cm;
  • depth - 50 cm.

It is also worth considering that many built-in dishwashers have large protruding buttons on the control panel of about 1.5 cm, the dimensions of which are not indicated in the technical documentation.

1

Dimensions and description

The smallest dishwasher is only 40 cm wide. At the same time, it is able to hold 4-6 sets of dishes and does not take up much space in the kitchen.

A dishwasher of this size, as a rule, has several built-in washing programs and several temperature modes, as well as various additional functions - delayed start timer, audible signal indicating the end of washing, full or partial leakage protection, protection against child interference, etc.

Such a dishwasher is not only compact and easy to use, but also fits harmoniously into the interior of any modern kitchen.

Can the dishwasher be installed under the sink?

The under-sink dishwasher is not a built-in appliance in the conventional sense. In fact, it's the same as a freestanding dishwasher, with dimensions that allow it to be placed under the siphon.

When installing, it is worth bearing in mind that a small dishwasher can only be installed under the sink if the space taken up by the sink and siphon is no more than 35 cm high in a standard 80 cm high floor kitchen cabinet.

Also, the unit must be narrow enough to fit into the cabinet - about 45 cm in width.

Unambiguous pluses of this arrangement is the economy of space and the proximity of all communications - water and sewage.

2

Advantages and disadvantages

Compact dishwasher has a number of advantages that distinguish it from larger models:

  • the possibility of placement under the sink or on a kitchen cabinet - thanks to the small size of the mini dishwasher, it can be placed as conveniently as possible even in the smallest kitchen;
  • economical consumption of water and electricity - the device consumes much less water than when washing dishes in the sink, and small models consume a small amount of electricity;
  • availability of protection against leaks;
  • ease of installation and operation.

In addition to the advantages, mini dishwashers have some disadvantages:

  • low capacity compared to standard-sized models
  • inability to wash large pots and pans;
  • high level of noise produced - small models, as a rule, work a little louder than larger devices.

3

How to choose and what to look for?

When choosing a small dishwasher, recessed under the sink, you should pay attention to several important factors:

  • capacity;
  • water and electricity consumption;
  • noise level;
  • washing and drying class;
  • availability of leakage protection;
  • availability of child protection.

Small built-in dishwashers are usually designed for 6-8 sets of dirty dishes. Such capacity is suitable for a family of 1-2 people, as well as for washing children's dishes. However, washing large dishes in a mini dishwasher - pots and pans - will not work.

Smaller appliances use much less resources. The water consumption for one complete washing cycle of a mini dishwasher does not exceed 8 liters, and the power consumption is not more than 0.65 kWh.

The washing and drying class of the dishwasher determines how well it will clean the dishes from various impurities. The best class is considered to be indicated by the letter A. This classification belongs to most models of famous manufacturers.

Most modern models of dishwashers, including mini-dishwashers, are equipped with full or partial leakage protection, as well as childproofing, which makes using the appliance safer.

    In our small apartment and the kitchen is very small, we have to use the free space sparingly. That is why we have no possibility to install a separate stationary machine, and we use the built-in mini washing machine Flavia CI 55 Havana P5, it is a pity of course that it does not fit under the sink, but it is well located in a separate cabinet in the kitchen. We use this machine for a year, she cleans well and most importantly water consumption is small and works quietly and places do not take.

    Tell me how much does this dishwasher use electricity and water? Will it be a big hit to the monthly bill? And the question if the house is poor water quality, what do you use to avoid limescale.

  3. Andrew. says

    When choosing a dishwasher, first we wanted to get a dishwasher under the sink. The dimensions as I measured it should fit under the siphon. But at the last moment, still changed my mind to take such a machine for the reason that from the siphon still goes to the drain and it often have to be cleaned, and if the top will leak then all on the machine and will pour. Only because of this, I abandoned the idea of installing a membrane under the sink, bought and installed next to the sink built-in small dishwasher.

  4. Galina Says

    We were looking for a dishwasher in our Khrushchev kitchen that wasn't very big, so it would be safe to put it under the sink. Our choice was the Weissgauff TDW. I liked the reviews on the Internet, and the functions are also satisfied. When ordering a kitchen set, we took into account the size of this particular machine, so it fits exactly as it was here. We were not disappointed in our choice. The machine is really not noisy. It does the job well. Wouldn't recommend it!
