Design and principle of operation

Induction hob is a portable mobile cooker, which is very different from its full-sized counterparts by its performance and principle of operation.

The surface of the hob is made of glass ceramic. There is no heating element under it, but there are electromagnetic coils responsible for creating a magnetic field. They, in turn, provoke induced currents.

Power lines change, currents are generated, which pass through the cookware and heat the food. This is the main feature of stoves, as the cooktop does not heat up. A minimal amount of energy is required.

Another feature: a unique safety feature. When creating the device there was a minimum diameter of the object, which can be heated (most often - not less than 12 cm).

And if you are a fan of brewing coffee in a carafe, you should buy a flat disc of metal - an adapter, which will be heated. Its presence, by the way, will allow you to use the existing cookware, rather than buying a new one.

Connect the induction hob can only be connected to an outlet equipped with a fuse and grounding.

If you want your appliance to last as long as possible, take good care of it.

After each meal, wipe the surface with a soft cloth or sponge and a liquid dishwashing gel. No harsh detergents! Make sure that moisture does not get inside the housing during washing, otherwise the device could be damaged. The fan and air intake can be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner.

Advantages and disadvantages

Pros

  • Economical and fast process. You can boil a pot of liquid three times faster than on a gas stove because the heating rate is several times faster. At the same time electricity is spent 1.5 times less than with electric stoves.
  • Safety of the process. It is impossible to burn yourself on an induction stove because the surface automatically shuts off when you remove the cookware.
  • Induction cooktop maintenance is simple. There is no need to tear off the froth of burnt milk or dried rice because the surface is not heated. A simple detergent and sponge is all it takes.
  • Beautiful to look at. Comfortable, smooth burners that don't protrude over the cooktop. Cookware can be moved around as needed.
  • Multiple cooking modes. You can stew vegetables and boil water on the same burner. You don't need to stand over the stove and control the process.
  • Eco-friendliness.

Cons

  • Since the induction stove is only powered by electricity, you'll have to keep an eye on the outlets in your house. If you have had a gas stove in your home, replacing it can be a time-consuming task.
  • People with pacemakers will have to refuse to use such equipment. The reason is the electromagnetic field, which can have a negative impact on their well-being.
  • Special utensils made of metal are required. Non-metal cookware will not heat up. To check the suitability of this or that container will help an ordinary magnet (by the way, they are put in boxes with tiles). If it will be magnetized to the pot - you can use it. Another option: it is cheaper and more convenient to use a special adapter adapter than to buy new cookware.
  • High cost.
  • If the user wants to implement the idea of built-in appliances - you will have to completely change the entire kitchen set.

How to choose and what to look for?

The dimensions of the hob

A stove with one burner is the size of a scrapbook page. It is easy to use and easy to hide. Models with 2-3 burners are suitable for a small family.

The number of temperature modes

Unlike old stoves, induction stoves can have several modes.

The simpler versions have 6-7, the expensive - up to two dozen.

1

Functions

Maybe a higher price will be equal to the quality, but ask yourself - do you need all those modes, about which the advertising says? Set your priorities.

Main:

  • Pause (The stove will run on one of the programmed programs, but if the owner needs to leave - just press the button and the food will not spoil).
  • Control function (sound alerts and a timer will not let your porridge to burn, and soup overcook).
  • Heat preservation (the stove has not only a cooking mode, but also a slow heating mode. So the food will have the same look and flavor as a few hours ago.

In addition to the basics, induction stoves have additional features.

For example, if you want to save money and want to keep track of the amount of electricity consumed, you should buy a device with a special energy meter. If you do not want to overpay for heavy-duty modes, pay attention to stoves that can increase the power of one burner at the expense of another.

Another extremely useful innovation: the appearance of a burner in the place where you put the pot or pan.

This technology saves space on the cooktop.

1

Manufacturer

The universally recognized mastodons in this area are the brands Bosch (Germany) and Electrolux (Sweden). Technique of these companies is distinguished by high quality standards and appropriate prices.

The Swiss company Oursson offers models of original design and high quality build. The Russian company Smile offers single-burner, low-power models.

Chinese companies Midea and Ricci - stylish models at an affordable price.

A few more tips:

  • When going to buy, take the time to study the information, and do it not in the store, but at home - so you can save money.
  • Determine in advance where in the kitchen (or other room) you will put your tile. Measure it - use the result when buying.
  • The usual cookware (ceramic, glass, aluminum) will not work for the induction stove. Buy the necessary set together with the stove.
Modern models of induction stoves will fit well in almost any interior, but they look best in modern, high-tech and loft style kitchens.

Thanks for the article, but we got ourselves an indexit, we somehow liked it better.

  2. Natalia says

Hi all! Last summer we got a single burner induction stove in our summer house, but an old style, bulky one. It broke quickly, didn't even last a season.
This time, after reading your article, we bought a two-burner Kitfort KT-104. Including the discount and bonuses, it came out to about six thousand. I really liked that the surface is really able to withstand a blow of medium strength. And the price is attractive.
Very happy with the purchase! Thank you very much for what you do!

  3. Aaron Says

    Thanks for the review.
BUT, you list the manufacturers (mastodons, Russia, China) and your top doesn't include any of the manufacturers listed.

  4. Vlad says

The main drawback of the listed boards, which we buy in Russia, is that they are all made in China! Well, they do not bring induction stoves from Europe to hypermarkets. And we do not make them under license.
Hence some disadvantages, which can not be specified for a particular model as general. The main ones are noise and quality and average service life with users.
For example, I bought two Kitfort KT-107 stoves - for myself and my daughter. Mine worked for 5 years, until it suddenly short-circuited when turned off. And these two stoves liked the relative quietness when working.
In the end, having decided that one shouldn't look for the good, I bought the Kitfort KT-107 again. And I was disappointed. It sounds like a construction hair dryer on all modes and even without dishes, until the fan turns off! What kind of review should I write?
Conclusion: when buying an induction stove, besides studying reviews, hope to be lucky! At least until they open up European markets to us and/or we learn how to assemble these generally uncomplicated products ourselves.
